Judging by the comments below many people will be shocked to find out the Earth's crust is cracked into numerous plates that are in motion with some pulling apart and creating vast underwater mountain ranges and others crashing together to create earthquakes, volcanoes and mountains. Didn't anyone have Earth Science in junior high?
